Vibram Five Fingers THE HAGUE - The trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity in CAR of former vice president of Congo (DRC) Jean-Pierre Bemba will open Nov. 22 in front International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, the ICC said on Thursday. Arrested in Brussels in May 2008 under an international mandate of the ICC and held at The Hague in July 2008, it must meet two counts of crimes against humanity and three counts of war crimes. Jean-Pierre Bemba fled the DRC after losing the presidential election held in the end of the transition period that followed the 1998-2003 war and during which he was one of four vice-presidents. Taking the head of the opposition for a short period, he was forced into exile when Government forces had begun to disarm his private militia during clashes that had killed 300 people in March 2007. The opening of his trial, originally scheduled for April 27, had been postponed three times, Judges believed in the "interest of justice" that the plea of inadmissibility must be decided before the trial began.
